John Ansell: Imposter Creative Uses Imposter Typeface "to anyone who does this for a living, it screams FAKE ROLEX"

I try to look away, but can’t help myself. John Ansell, the manic, 9/11-denying , toolshed historian, now has a logo for his burgeoning anti-biculturalist movement. It’s designed by Rachel Cunliffe, the New Zealand right’s WordPress vendor of choice . Although the “circle of friends ” motif is hardly at the forefront of brand identity, the icon is ably designed, with a sly (perhaps more likely; unintentional) resemblance to the Tuhoe flag . I’ve already blogged at length about Ansell’s professional ineptitude , so shan’t bang on too much. If his audience is receptive to his carnival barking, then hooray for him. But I do have something to say about his logo’s typography. It drives me bananas. The typeface is Arial, every design professional’s least-favourite Helvetica knockoff, with absolutely no attention paid to the kerning of characters. It sticks out, and to anyone who...
