Police investigate after British sailor claims auction house tried to sell him back his missing Rolex

B ut just six weeks ago he says the Swiss auction house contacted him on behalf of a seller and asked if he owned the engraved watch - and if he wanted to buy it back. He claims that Christie's said they would only negotiate with him if he keeps the matter ''quiet'' but Mr McColl became suspicious the watch may in fact have been stolen and reported the matter to the police. Devon and Cornwall Police has confirmed it is still looking into the claims and said they want to reunite the Rolex with its rightful owner. There is not suggestion Christie’s was aware of any suggestion the watch might have been stolen, however it says its legal department is looking into the issue of ownership.
