You know how during the industrial revolution there were a lot of people talking about capitalism like it was a big cancerous process where capital has a mind of its own, and pervades more and more places, people, and societies, ad infinitum, in a constant never ending growth? And that it turned humans into mere machines for profit, and destroyed culture into nothing more than a hollow quest for more and more profit? So Walmart is basically the archetype of that happening. They build a supercenter in a town and offer goods super cheap. Every buys these goods because they're so cheap, so Main Street mom and pop shops can't compete. Then more and more people have to work at Walmart. But Walmart doesn't pay them enough, they keep all the money, so people need to depend on government assistance while they make Walmart profit.
