The changing rules of engagement jewelry can mean proposing with a vintage Rolex instead of a diamond ring via @WSJ
The new engagement rings from Brooklyn jewelry store Catbird skew more romantic, nodding to the heirloom engagement piece. The collection of three-stone rings, called the Swans, has a delicate scale (the largest stone is .74 carats), and encourages stacking. The store didn't intend to get into the bridal category, explained general manager Leigh Batnick Plessner. "Years ago we started selling pieces that weren't intended necessarily as engagement rings, as engagement rings," she said. "It was exciting to see people recontextualize what we thought were just beautiful rings."
