In Lima, Peru, the annual rainfall is half an inch per year, but - and this is a mighty but - the humidity is 98 per cent. So last year students at the University of Engineering and Technology created the first billboard in the world that produces drinking water out of air. It works through a reverse-osmosis system, capturing the humidity, condensing and purifying the water, and draining it into 24-litre tanks. In three months, the billboard has produced 11,000 litres. There are taps beneath it so locals can fill bottles or have a shower, and the supply is obviously free. So far this is the only one - but if it's replicable, it just might be the best thing that ever happened to the advertising industry.
