New York City has a unique ability to combine the best of history with glimpses toward the future. The historic Standish Arms Hotel was designed by F.S. Lowe in 1903, a classic 12-story Beaux Arts building in Brooklyn Heights. The building first operated as a hotel and is famed for inspiring the name of Clark Kent’s residence in the Superman comic books. Later, the handsome building with bay windows was once a residence hall for Jehovah’s Witnesses who worked for the society’s printing and distribution businesses.
