Berlin is a hotbed of emerging and established art, culture, and alternative nightlife
The Museum to visit: Neues Museum Berlin's Museum Island is the most diverse and coherent museum complex in the world. Over the past 11 years, the Neues Museum , a bombed-out ruin since 1945, has been repaired and rebuilt by British architect David Chipperfield. "We were left with the treasure, a building with incredible physical power. The challenge for us was not to make it look as it used to, but to give the fragments meaning, to keep its history alive." "History is so much talked about here, and so much is forgotten," added Chipperfield. "I wanted to make a memorial to history and to survival." The museum will house some of the finest Egyptian antiquities in Europe and opened at the end of 2009.
