Portraits of people & their teddy bears painted via Skype? Who knew Sandro Kopp's private view would be so fun!...

Aristotle said "pleasure in the job puts perfection in the work" and, bearing this in mind, Sandro Kopp has put together a new exhibition using his favourite activity: Skyping. The result? Mediated Presence Skype Portraits & Animal Companions - portraits of his best friends with their teddy bears painted through sittings via Skype. Clever, no? And so, last night, all of said pals trotted to 6 Fitzroy Square for the official private view with celebratory supper. Stephen Fry joined Jay Joplin and Waris Ahluwalia for champagne and berry cocktails before supper was served - smoked salmon followed by char-grilled steak and damson crumble - while everyone else surveyed the room hoping their beloved teddy had made the cut. Nerve-wracking stuff.
