Smith Hanes and Alisa Barry may be Atlanta’s most underestimated power couple. Their creations help compose the food-centric face Atlanta shows to the world, but their personas? Famously subdued. Both laugh heartily, and often. Svelte and blond-bobbed, Barry readies for a busy day in simply all-black. Similarly dressed down in jeans, Hanes blithely tucks his sandy hair behind his ears. Barry calls him her “creative soul mate,” and extends a hand to his knee as she begins to explain how they met. Hanes interjects: “I discovered her through dessert.” In the infancy of Bella Cucina, Hanes was a regular at Barry’s Bennett Street cafe.
