Skiing down a mountain has never been so much fun

Obertauern in the Austrian Alps is regarded as the home of the new sport of kite-skiing. The premise is simple, according to Tony Ully. Ully is arguably the founder of kite-skiing, and regarded by many as the world's leading proponent. The concept is similar to kite-surfing, except that you wear skis, obviously, or a snowboard, and do it on snow instead of water. Both versions have their own dangers. In water you can drown and in the mountains you can fly off the edge of a cliff. Neither is agreeable, but Ully runs a short course of lessons for beginners to help you avoid that. Obertauern is a good place to kite-ski as the wind tends to be consistent and stiff - gusty winds make life hard - and at 1,740-2,526 metres the resort is high and snow conditions reliable.
