In an attempt to coin the term “smasual,” Tina Gaudoin discusses how one should dress to look smart-casual as we are nearing the end of the summer. She actually has some really good tips in the article and it is well worth the read. A reader recently wrote to say that my piece about bankers' inability to dress for the beach was narrow-minded and sexist. Plenty of men, she suggested, know exactly how to attire themselves for vacations. In other words, Success and the City does not automatically equal a lack of sartorial savvy. But I stand by my claims. There's no better place for anthropological research than in the Hamptons, where you can still spot a banker by his stiffened shorts, golfer's tan and that ubiquitous Polo shirt in Crayola blue, red or green.
