It travelled across 25 countries and took five years to film. Samsara is a documentary without words, an observational film that makes no comment but takes viewers on an epic journey around the world. It sweeps through the deserts of Arizona and Ethiopia, across the Epupa Falls in Angola, around the ancient rose-red city of Petra in Jordan and the volcanic rock formations of Cappadocia in Turkey. It explores ways of life and cultural traditions of more exotic lands than ours, such as Balinese dancers (pictured); and looks at lives lived according to religion and other belief systems, from hundreds of thousands of bent figures during Ramadan, to the young Buddhist monks painstakingly creating sandpaintings in a mountaintop monastery in Ladakh, northern India.
