How to find "the Picassos of the calligraphy world":

calligraphy in the style of Ikhtyar al-Munshi, a calligrapher at the Imperial court of Safavid Emperor Shah Tahmasp (r.1514-76) in Iran, this album page was later decorated with elaborate floral illumination, before being attached to a folio featuring a painting of a young lady and her companion, produced in Mughal India. The combination of materials demonstrates how calligraphy as an art form was preserved, collected, and ultimately travelled across regions and borders — both within the Islamic world and beyond.
