"Listen to it while it’s on your wrist," says Hublot chairman Jean-Claude Biver of the company’s King Power Cathedral Minute Repeater Tourbillon. Though obviously meant to be worn, acoustic watches are nevertheless slightly muted by contact with the body. Even so, the King Power Cathedral ($402,000), which resounds both on the wrist and off, is by far the loudest minute repeater ever created by Hublot. This is due in part to its carbon-fiber case—a first for the minute-repeater category—which, according to Biver, functions much like the wood on a violin. The case is produced in a factory Hublot purchased last year, making the minute repeater a truly proprietary development—and perhaps the best example of the brand’s new material-fusion concept.
