The MMT joint venture is between Fullpower Technologies of Silicon Valley and Union Horlogere Holdings (owner of the Frederique Constant and Alpina brands). Fullpower (whose MotionX technology already powers wearables by Nike and Jawbone) will handle the firmware, smartphone apps, and cloud infrastructure side of the technology. with MotionZ MMT (a Union Horlogere entity) managing the Swiss watch movement development and production as well as licensing and support for the Swiss watch industry. Interestingly, the JV is making its technology platform open to other watchmakers — the MotionX Horological Smartwatch Open Platform will provide platform technology while allowing for each watch brand/designer to focus on their own identity.
