Now in its third incarnation, “The Adlon Hotel” in Berlin has a rich history. The original Adlon was built in 1907 by Lorenz Adlon. Astonishingly, it managed to survive two World Wars (hosting celebrities such as Charlie Chaplin, Louise Brooks, and Marlene Dietrich in between), only to be accidently burnt to the ground by drunken Soviet soldiers in 1945. It was rebuilt in 1964, torn down again in 1984 and finally rebuilt in its current state in 1997. In addition to providing the backdrop for the bulk of the Liam Neeson film “Unknown”, The Adlon has also been the inspiration for several cinematic hotels, and continues to host the rich and famous.
