Stranded dog rescued from churning Lincoln County river (video) - Shelby Star

Trapped precariously on a dam with frigid water rushing past its feet, the wounded and weary dog had little choice but to stand in place for nearly a day. But Lincoln County rescue workers assembled Wednesday to rescue the stranded canine and bring smiles to several faces. The incident occurred at a hazardous spot off Laboratory Road, just south of Lincolnton. The pre-Civil Water dam there is situated near a walking trail that runs along the South Fork River, said Chief Greg Lowrance of the South Fork Volunteer Fire Department. When heavy rainfall occurs upstream, such as what was seen early this week, it raises the water level, speeds up currents and causes the river to roil dangerously at the low-head dam near Lincolnton.
