The International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ), recently uncovered a stockpile of 2.5 million files detailing the offshore accounts of people from all over the world. The files contained alarming information regarding the monetary skullduggery of some of the world’s richest people. This dubious lot literally hide their money in places like the Caribbean, the Cayman Islands, the Cook Islands, Panama, Luxembourg and the British Virgin Islands (if you are reading this and you need to stash a small fortune, feel free to take notes). Highlights of the investigation are available at ICIJ’s website, where you will find a veritable list of extravagantly wealthy people caught with their pants down; for example, Tony Merchant, a former politician and high-profile class action attorney.
