Abu Dhabi: Lo Sceicco Hamad Bin Hamdan, voglio che il mio nome si legga dallo spazio

Abu Dhabi's billionaire Sheikh Hamad Bin Hamdan Al Nahyan now enjoys the satisfaction of knowing that extraterrestrial visitors will know who he is - his name, which has been etched onto his private island of Al Futaisi, is visible from space. "Hamad" spans two miles wide, and the first two letters are so big they have been made into waterways - lending the letters a tinge of blue and presumably allowing the megarich businessman the pleasure of cruising his yacht along the contours of his own name. While no official figures have been made public, conservative estimates peg the project to have cost around US$22 million - small change for the Sheikh, who has a personal fortune worth $22.5 billion. For those of you curious enough to want to check this out, Google Earth will allow you an aircraft's view of the spectacle. This is megalomania at its most amusing and eye-popping.
